The Killeen Police Department Law Enforcement Assistance Fund (LEAF) is
an educational, philanthropic, non profit organization, 501 (c) 3, that
is dedicated to support the officers, staff and families of the KPD.
Through the coordination of Chief Baldwin, Assistant Chief Longwell,
Carroll Smith, Tim Stroud and several city officials, LEAF was born. It
was through a generous donation by Paul J. Meyer of Pre-Paid Legal
Services that the KPD LEAF was able to organize.
Leaf's namesake is credited to Assistant Chief Longwell of the KPD.
During a meeting with Tim Stroud and Carroll Smith, Longwell likened
the organization's functions to those of a leaf...a source of energy
and protection. Credit goes to Becky Sauceda for the design and logo
for the organization.
The KPD LEAF has an all volunteer Board of Directors that includes:
Carroll Smith, Tim Stroud, Dave Griffard, Christopher Sauceda, Bob
Sykes, Wesley King, Brenda Coley, Jeff Weeks, Joan Kelley, Ricardo Acosta, Chris Bernard and Lisa
Chappell.. (with oversight by Chief Baldwin and Asst. Chief Longwell)
LEAF will use the donations from the membership sales for the sole purpose of officer support. There are three yearly memberships available.
