4ID MemorialPopular

The 4th Infantry Division Association is sponsoring the fund drive to erect a memorial to the Iron Horse Soldiers and Soldiers attached to the 4th Infantry Division who have fallen icropidname n Iraq during the last year.  At the time of this writing, the Division has lost 152 Soldiers in Iraq since December 2005.  This monument will be a lasting memorialization of their sacrifice for this nation and the Iraqi people.

The memorial itself will be an addition to the current, elegant memorial park dedicated to the fallen heroes from 2003-2004.  It will consist of a semi-circular herring-bone brick walkway encompassing the west side of the current monument, wide enough for two people to walk abreast.  At either entrance (north and south) to the walk, there will be bronze plaques depicting the missions of the Multi-National Division-Baghdad (MND-B) (South) and the detached 4ID Brigades working for MND-North (North).

The walkway will also have a concrete bench following a low outer wall where visitors may sit to contemplate the sacrifice of these men and women.  The outer portion of the existing tall (west) wall of the current monument would become the palette for the placement of bronze plaques with the names of the fallen and their dates of death, arranged in the same manner as the earlier plaques on the other (interior) side of the wall.  At the apogee (western point) of the semi-circular walk, the low, outer wall will be built as an alcove to hold a bronze plaque with the names of those who have contributed to the erection of this memorial.   (A rough picture of the memorial is attached to this letter.)

The entire memorial will be an esthetic whole, a seamless tribute to those whoimage307 sacrificed everything to bring democracy to Iraq and security to America.  The complete cost of the addition to the existing memorial, including materials, construction, and the casting and placement of all of the bronze plaques will not be more than $90,000.  All who contribute will be remembered in the bronze plaque to be erected as part of the monument itself.  Suggested donations are $500 for individuals and $1,000 for corporate sponsors, but any donation will be greatly appreciated and recognized.  Donors will also receive a letter from the 4th Infantry Division Association for their tax-deductible donation.

Those who wish to contribute to the construction of this lasting, fitting tribute to our fallen Soldiers and heroes may do so through our website, www.4idmemorial.com or by sending a check payable to “4ID Association” to:
