Metroplex Health System is a major health care provider in Bell, Coryell and Lampasas counties in the northern Hill Country of Central Texas. Dedicated to meeting residents’ needs for quality health care services, Metroplex has grown rapidly to meet those needs. With 238 licensed beds, Metroplex Hospital provides 153 acute-care beds in Killeen, 60 psychiatric care beds in the nearby Metroplex Pavilion Behavioral Health Center and 25 beds at Rollins Brook Community Hospital in Lampasas. The system employs about 1,200 area residents and cares for more than 125,000 patients each year. Metroplex supports an exceptional staff of more than 140 physicians, representing 34 medical specialties.

WIDE RANGE OF SERVICES

As the hub of the Metroplex system, Metroplex Hospital is a modern, acute-care facility with high-end, state-of-the-art equipment and technology. It includes a 24-hour emergency room, cardiac care equipment, general and same-day surgery suites and maternity services. Metroplex Hospital offers a radiology lab equipped with advanced diagnostics imaging capabilities, including state-of -the-art Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), 64-image CT scans, nuclear medicine techniques, a cardiac-cath lab for diagnosing and treating heart blockage and other heart-related problems, x-ray imaging, ultrasound and mammography.

Metroplex recently combined it cardiac and vascular services under one program that offers procedures such as cardiac stent placement and aortic abdominal aneurusm surgery. Metroplex also has an extensive on-site laboratory, pharmacy, and cardio-pulmonary care.
Metroplex Cardiac Rehab, Metroplex Sleep Disorders Center and Metroplex Care Center are also located at the Metroplex Hospital.

Metroplex Hospital recently completed work on its new patient tower expansion that adds three floors to the current two-story north wing. The 62,248-square-foot expansion added 22 private rooms to the fifth floor----14 designated as surgical/medical patient rooms and eight as orthopedic rooms. The floor also includes a hydrotheraphy whirlpool and rehabilitation gym. The
fourth floor includes 24 ICU and intermediate care rooms. The third floor has been shelled in and reserved for future use.

Metroplex Health System also operates Rollins Brook Community Hospital, a 25-bed critical access hospital in Lampasas, located 25 miles of Killeen. Rollins Brook offers many technological services including a 24 hour emergency center, a state-of-the-art laboratory, medical/surgical rooms, CT scanning, mammography and cardio-pulmonary services with EKG and stress testing. Rollins Brock recently completed a 14,000-square-foot expansion that added 17 new patient rooms, a new surgical suite and an ambulatory surgery area. The new surgical suite, located on the lower level, houses two operating rooms and a ambulatory surgery area with six re-op/post-op bays and four recovery bays designed for the same-day surgical procedures.

WHOLE-PERSON CARE

As Metroplex grows in size and technology, the health system’s well-earned reputation of outstanding personalized health care remains steadfast. Like other Adventist-operated hospitals, Metroplex is committed to meeting the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the people it serves. Expanded services include such programs and resources as chaplaincy services, grief recovery counseling, and daily and weekly devotional programs for employees and hospital visitors and patients.

Metroplex offers a community wellness program that has 10-15 classes and screenings each month, such as monthly health screenings, blood drives and CPR classes. Two special services include Prime of Life for individuals 55 years and older and monthly childbirth classes for the more than 1,000 babies born at Metroplex each year.

Physicians and employees also participate in community outreach programs, including an annual Silver Classic 5K Run and Walk each March, the Lampasas Health Fest each June, spring and fall golf tournaments, KidFest Health & Safety Fair every October, and the Gold Star Gala Foundation fund raiser each November. Metroplex Health System is a sponsor of the Greater Killeen Free Clinic, which provides medical care for those in need in Killeen and surrounding communities.

A FAMILY PLACE

The community offers a small-city lifestyle with the conveniences and cultural opportunities of nearby Austin, Dallas and Fort Worth. The temperate climate, and an abundance of sports, religious, civic and culture programs make Killeen an ideal location for residents and visitors. Several lakes, parks, campgrounds, and golf courses offer a variety of recreational activities. The public school system has more than 50 schools, and the area has several private and Christian schools, including a Seventh-day Adventist junior academy. Undergraduate work is offered by Central Tarleton State University Central Texas.
