City celebrates Veterans Day with event

Respect and reflection were the running themes during the city’s Veterans Day Ceremony, held last Monday. Guest speakers included U.S. Congressman John Carter and LTG Rick Lynch, Commanding General of III Corps and Fort Hood. Heights sees more increases in sales tax payments

Texas Comptroller Susan Combs said the state collected $1.73 billion in sales tax revenue in October, up 5.2 percent compared to October 2007. “Sales tax collections grew in the first two months of fiscal 2009, however, at slower rates than generally seen over the past three years,” Combs said. “Collections have continued to increase overall, but remittances from the key retail trade sector have begun to decline slightly as consumers grow increasingly cautious and confidence erodes.”   Read more...

Aycock files legislation on behalf of Texas A&M-Central Texas

AUSTIN – State Representative Jimmie Don Aycock (R-Killeen) pre-filed legislation regarding the issuance of tuition revenue bonds for Texas A&M University-Central Texas. House Bill 61, if passed in the upcoming 81st Legislative Session, would strike the expiration date for the issuance of revenue bonds, which is currently in statue to expire on January 1, 2010. This bill will also strike the expiration date for Texas A&M-San Antonio and The University of North Texas Dallas Campus.  Read more...
