lulac-004Organized as a Texas non-profit corporation and recognized as a tax exempt entity by the IRS, the Killeen LULAC Council 4535 Foundation has awarded $39,000 in Scholarships in the local area to graduating seniors from KISD and CCISD, and this year, two continuing education scholarships at Central Texas College and at Tarleton State University- Central Texas.
In the past two years, the Foundation has sponsored a Cinco de Mayo Festival in Killeen, receiving partial funding from the City of Killeen Hotel Motel Tax revenues in 2007. 
The First 16 de Setiembre Festival will take place this year at the Killeen Community Center on 15 September. This festival also is partially funded by the City of Killeen Hotel Motel Tax revenues.
The Foundation asking for folkloricflag performers and vendors to participate.  The attached registration forms for Performers and Vendors explain the rules.  Folkloric Performers will be paid a stipend of $150.00 for their performance.  Vendors can register for $50.00 for booth space, and in turn can keep 100% of their revenues during the Festival.
The Foundation is also sponsoring a car show during the day, with registration for cars and bikes at $20.00 per entry.  There will be trophies awarded to the top three entrees in each category.  For the children we will have Bouncy Games as well as Piñatas.
In the evening, three professional performers will entertain the audience at the Amphitheater.  Bring your blankets and or lawn chairs and enjoy the show.  At 6:00 PM, the performances will kick off with the Grupo Vidal, a Tejano group that will entertain us until 8:00 PM.  At that time, Austin's Puerto Rico Folkloric Dance Group, a 24 person professional troupe will provide a recital on Puerto Rican folkloric music and dance. 
Finally, at 9:00 PM, El Mariachi Unico will delight us with their traditional Mexican Music, culmination with an "El Grito" Contest emulation the cry or yell for Independence of Mexico that is celebrated on this day.
For November, the Foundation has been licensed to screen the film "The Borinqueneers", a documentary describing the history of the famous Puerto Rico 65th Infantry Regiment (65 de Infantería), with special emphasis on its service in the Korean War,  The Foundation is looking for Veterans who served with the Regiment in order to recognize them and thanks them for their service to our nation.  Anyone who served with the Regiment, or knows of a friend or relative who served, should contact the Foundation to add to the honor roll of those who served.
