Killeen 2008 Cinco de Mayo Festival Planning and Pageant Begins.The Killeen LULAC Council 4535 Foundation will conduct the 3rd Annual Cincode Mayo Festival in Killeen on 3 May 2008.  
This Festival is partially funded by  Killeen Municipal Hotel Motel Tax Revenues. The
Festival will take place at the St Christopher's’Episcopal Church grounds at 2800 Trimmier
Drive, and will include arts and crafts, vendors,folkloric groups performances, a Car Show kids
games, and many other activities. Vendors’registration is only $50.00, and Performers will
be paid a stipend for their 30 minuteperformances.  Major trophies will be available
for winners in the Car Show.  Registration Formsfor Vendors, Performers, and the Car Show are
available from the Foundation.
 
But let’s talk some more about the Pageant.  In2006, Ms Kassaundra de la Cruz, a Shoemaker
High School student was selected as the first Cinco de Mayo Queen.  “Kassie” received a
$1,000 Savings Bond upon completion of her reign during the 2007 Festival.  During that
Festival, Kristal Olivarez, also from ShoemakerHigh School became the 2007 Cinco de Mayo
Queen, and was crowned by Kassie, the outgoing Queen.Kristal will receive her $1,000 Savings
Bond upon successful completion of her reign at the 2008 Cinco de Mayo Festival.
 
Applications for the 2008 Cinco de Mayo Pageant are now available from the
Student Activities Directors at each of the five local High Schools, as well as many
Hispanic Restaurants and stores.  There are no application fees, but applicants will
be provided an official Identification Form.  Donations received by the applicants
will all be used for future Scholarships to be awarded by the LULAC Council
4535 Foundation.

All applicants must register as soon as possible, but no later than 2 April 2008.  
Donations collected must be turned in no later than 3 May 2008.  The top fund
raising applicant will be declared the Cinco de Mayo Festival Queen– the first
Runner Up will be declared the Cinco de Mayo Festival Princess, and will
receive a $500 Savings Bond upon completion of her reign.  All other contestants
will form the Cinco de Mayo Festival Royal Court.  The Queen and Princess, as
part of their reign, must participate in at least four community events,
representing the Killeen LULAC Council 4535 Foundation.
