Lampasas City Info
History : Although Tonkawan Indians were constantly present, the Lampasas area saw a constant shifting of Indian cultures in the 16th and 17th century as different groups moved in and out of the area to take advantage of its abundant supply of game. Spanish missionaries arrived in the area as early as the 15th century. In the 1750's, the Franciscan Fathers established the San Gabriel mission approximately 60 miles east of Lampasas near the present site of Rockdale.

Duties:
The City of Lampasas is governed by a Council-Manager form of government. The City Council enacts legislation, adopts budgets, determines policies, and appoints the City Manager, who executes the laws and administers the government of the City. Citizen advisory boards and commission add to the governing process. The goal of the City of Lampasas government is to provide outstanding services that contribute to the quality of life for the community. The City has approximately 90 full time employees, 6 part time employees, and 20 seasonal employees.
The City Council is composed of the Mayor and six Council members, such positions being numbered 1 through 6 consecutively. The Mayor and Council members are all elected at large for two year terms. The City Council meets on the second and fourth Monday of every month at 7:00 p.m. in regular session and generally meets in a workshop session at 5:30 p.m. preceding the regular meeting.
